Exploring the Science Behind BLENDÉ's Colour-Match Technology
Updated: Aug 24
At BLENDÉ, we believe colour should be more than simply choosing between individual shades. It should be an opportunity to create something personal, expressive and beautifully blended.
For many people who wear synthetic braiding hair, achieving a multi-tone look means purchasing several colours and manually combining them. You might know exactly how you want the finished style to look, but working out which shades to use and how much of each colour to combine can involve trial and error. This is where the idea behind BLENDÉ's colour technology begins.

From Colour Inspiration to a Physical Blend
BLENDÉ is exploring how digital colour analysis, formulation and physical fibre blending can work together to create pre-mixed custom blend braiding hair.
The proposed journey is:
Colour reference → Colour analysis → Formulation → Fibre ratios → Physical blending → Quality testing
For example, a customer may be drawn to a warm, dimensional colour combination such as:
2 · 30 · 27 · 613
Rather than treating these simply as four separate colours, BLENDÉ's approach explores how they can be combined in specific proportions to create a cohesive multi-tone blend.
The proportions matter. Changing the amount of one shade can alter the overall appearance, depth and balance of the finished blend. This is why BLENDÉ's R&D is focused not only on which colours to combine, but also on how they are formulated and physically blended.
A Digital Colour Isn't the Same as a Physical Strand
One of the most interesting challenges is translating digital colour into a physical product.
A colour displayed on a screen can be represented using digital values such as RGB or HEX. Synthetic hair, however, is a physical fibre. Its appearance can be affected by the individual shades selected, their proportions, how the fibres are distributed and the conditions in which the finished blend is viewed.
This means a digital colour reference cannot simply be converted into a guaranteed physical hair formulation.
Instead, BLENDÉ is exploring how digital colour information can provide a starting point for selecting physical synthetic-hair shades and developing formulation ratios, followed by physical testing and refinement.
From Formulation to Blending
The proposed BLENDÉ Digital Colour-Matching & Formulation System is intended to help connect the customer's colour inspiration with a structured formulation.
A future workflow could involve identifying suitable component shades, determining proposed ratios and translating those ratios into production instructions. The physical blend can then be produced and assessed.
If the result does not sufficiently reflect the intended colour direction, the formulation can be refined and tested again.
This creates an important development cycle:
Formulate → Blend → Evaluate → Refine → Repeat
Over time, successfully tested formulations could potentially become part of a structured BLENDÉ colour and formulation library, helping support greater consistency and repeatability.
Making Colour Experimentation Easier
The ultimate purpose isn't technology for technology's sake.
It is about solving a real customer problem.
Instead of having to buy multiple packs, separate the fibres and manually estimate how much of each colour to use, BLENDÉ's vision is to offer pre-mixed custom blend braiding hair that is ready to use.
This could include carefully developed signature blends such as Espresso, Caramel Silk and La Rouge, alongside the longer-term possibility of personalised combinations created around a customer's own colour preferences.
The result is intended to make experimenting with multi-tone colour simpler, more consistent and more accessible.
The Future of Colour Is Blended
BLENDÉ is still at the R&D stage, and our digital colour-matching and formulation technology is being developed and tested.
But the vision is clear: to explore how colour, technology and physical fibre blending can come together to create a new approach to synthetic braiding hair.
We're not simply creating more colours. We're exploring a smarter way to bring them together.
